JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 14-year-old new mother entered a restaurant near Linden Avenue and JFK Boulevard Wednesday afternoon seeking help, handing the newborn to someone and leaving before first responders arrived.
“Upon arrival, JCPD immediately rendered aid to ensure the baby’s health,” City Spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said of the incident that began at approximately 4:00 p.m. “The baby was taken to a nearby hospital in good health.”
Police located the mother about two blocks away near Linden Avenue and Old Bergen Road, before she was also transported to a local hospital where she was reported to be in good health.
No charges have been filed. Due to the nature of this case involving juveniles, no further information will be made publicly available at this time.
